Dari meja Pengarah

Assalamualaikum w.b.t

I am delighted to present the EMTech 2022 Annual Report, a UPM research centre of excellence (RCoE). In the pages that follow, we will update you on the progress we have made in our research activities as well as outline our annual accomplishments to expand our outreach over the past year, despite the enormous challenges that all of us in the research ecosystem have faced in recent months. The spread of coronavirus has thrown the world into chaos and the magnitude of global shock places a premium on international cooperation and research collaborations. In recent months, we have maintained our conference, meeting, and workshop schedule by replacing virtual events with physical ones as well as doing a hybrid mode.

Meanwhile, our core research has remained focused, with new publications providing timely analyses of fastmoving developments in enzyme and microbial technology. Quality publications have been our top priority, with 94 percent published in SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) journals and 60 percent listed in Clarivate Analytics' Q1 and Q2 rankings. Our mentors have lived up to expectations this year, being named the Career Long World's Top 2% Scientist based on citation analysis from Stanford University. Despite the difficult circumstances, particularly in recruiting postgraduate students, we have managed to maintain our recent momentum. It is critical for EMTech to remain relevant and maintain our RCoE status. This feat is impossible to achieve without the help of others. Sharing is caring has been a successful impetus and will continue to fuel the longevity and success of EMTech, which was founded in 1986 as a research group. As a result, we must all stay alert and strive to go above and beyond our KPIs. International and industrial grants are still required.

Despite the pandemic environment, we have made progress in establishing protein research in Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region. Our newly formed Protein Science Society of Malaysia is now formally established! We hoped that these establishments would complement our research efforts to share and disseminate new knowledge, paving the way for protein science research to reach new heights and have a greater impact in the coming years.

Finally, I'd like to thank all of our principal investigators for their extraordinary efforts. Prof Dr. Raja Noor Zaliha Raja Abd Rahman, our former coordinator, has set the tone; it is now up to us to sustain and retain this research centre. Of course, there is no shortcut here.

Let's get started!

Thank you.
