Our research focuses on two main areas:
1. Microbial Technology
One of our key focuses is on the exploration and exploitation of microbial and genetic resources, to obtain enzymes and peptides, as well as utilizing isolates as potential expression hosts for possible industrial applications. Recognizing that such exploration and exploitation efforts can be facilitated through bioinformatics, we also investigate bacterial and yeast genomes to further understand and manipulate their metabolic capabilities.
2. Structural Biology
Another of our key strength is on investigating protein structures and functions via cross-disciplinary platforms ranging from in silico computational modelling, simulation, molecular biology and biophysical techniques such as circular dichroism and protein X-ray crystallographic studies. Structural biology is used as a tool to understand the similarities and differences as well as possible mechanisms of the enzymes and peptides under study. This provides a means to decipher their hidden potentials and facilitate their improvement through molecular engineering approaches.
