Research interest:

My research interest is mainly related to metalloenzymes specifically hydrogenases and proteases. The objective is to unveil the structure-function relationships of the enzymes based on the three-dimensional structures by using X-ray crystallography method. My current and ongoing research is to investigate the interaction of key amino acid residues in the surface loop area of the serine protease with the metal Ca2+ which is responsible for the activation zymogen form of the enzyme. The outcomes will be useful in designing proteases with improved catalytic efficiency for industrial purposes and also inhibition studies of proteases. This also allows the study of stability-activity-structure relationships of the enzymes.
