Dr. Talib Ahmed Jaayid is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Animal Production, College of Agriculture, the University of Basrah (UOB). His academic qualifications include: B.Sc. in animal sciences (College of Agriculture, UOB), M.Sc. in goats reproductive physiology (College of Agriculture, UOB), Ph.D. in genetics and animal breeding (Kazan State Academy of Veterinary Medicine-KSAVM, Russia Federation). His research areas include: genetics, animal breeding, molecular genetics, genetic engineering and biotechnology. He has authored or co-authored more than 20 publications in the national and international journals and proceedings.
He chaired the Department of Animal Production, UOB for 5 years and participated in three training course on biotechnology in abroad (Tanzania, India and Jordan). Now he is the director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory. He is a member of International Society for Animal Genetics, USA and the Arab Science Technology Foundation (ASTF), United Arab Emirates. He organized many local training courses in molecular genetics and one international training course with the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology- ICGEB (Italy).
Dr. Jaayid maintains numerous professional and academic associations such as scientific advisor for Biotechnology Laboratory in the Marine Science Center, UOB, IRAQ and continues to mentor both PhD and Masters students at the College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary and the College of Sport Education in UOB. In 2009 he was awarded the ASTF and the American Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TAARII), Chicago, USA. Dr Jaayid will be the president of the soon to be announced Iraqi Society for Molecular Genetics Sciences.
