INTRODUCTION

Developed and developing countries including Malaysia are confronted with an emerging epidemic of obesity and a constellation of other non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This rising prevalence NCDs is believed to be an outcome of a complex interplay between a demographic, socio-economic, nutritional, environmental factors along with changes in lifestyle pattern. Once known as the diseases of the wealthy western countries, NCDs are fast becoming more threatening in developing countries such as Malaysia. In view of NCDs contribute up to 60% of all deaths especially in low and middle-income countries, with nutrition plays a central role in the prevention and management of NCDs, the Research Centre of Excellence, Nutrition and Non-communicable Diseases (RCoE-NNCD) was established in January 2014, with the aim to be the leading centre on nutrition research for the prevention and management of NCDs in the nation.

There are 5 core focus areas of RCoE-NCDD, which are:
Products development
Food Bioactive Components
Health Education and Health Promotion
Diet and Chronic Diseases
Community, Public Health, and Clinical Nutrition

With the well-blend of researchers from nutritional sciences, community nutrition and clinical nutrition, we welcome collaboration from universities, industries, research institutes and anticipate that RCoE-NCDD will uptake more impactful projects in relation to the better prevention and management of NCDs in the near future.
