NYAWA '12 BUAH BUAHAN

NATURE’S YIELD AND WONDERS OF ART (NYAWA) is a collaborative work representing the meeting of such diagrammatically opposed disciplines of the SCIENCES and ARTS. The exhibition is the result of one year’s work from conceptualization to execution.

The objective of NYAWA is to share the scientific findings and the Agribio collections residing in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with the public.

It is an indexed exhibition and an indexed catalogue; both of which would contribute vastly to the publication performance of UPM as well as the dynamism of the Arts and Humanities indexing.

NYAWA : FRUIT is also accessible through the Virtual Library Museum Pages (VLMP) UPM which is based at the Faculty of Design and Architecture, UPM and part of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

NYAWA has been spearheaded by Agribio Resources Division (Bahagian Sumber Agribio-BSA), Putra Science Park, with the assistance of The Faculty of Design and Architecture, UPM. BSA coordinates the data of all the biological specimens within UPM.

The specimens are divided into Natural History (Herbarium, Zoology, Arthropods, Freshwater Fish, Seeds, Agriculture Artifacts) and the Living Collections (Plants, Freshwater Fish, Microbes). Each sample has been digitized and can be viewed through ARMS (Agribio Resources Management System) database.

The theme for 2012 is NYAWA : FRUIT. Various scientific aspects of the fruits are interpreted, portrayed, and displayed in artistic forms. It is envisaged that the audience would enjoy a new and stimulating journey based on the hard facts from years of laboratory and field experiments.

The contributors are from BSA, Faculty of Design and Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Science, Institute of Bioscience, and UPM alumnus.

The NYAWA series would be an annual event in the University’s calendar with the aim of attracting national and international contributions, one that will bring the scientists and the artists together for mutual understanding and challenging each other’s boundaries.
