This programme was established with the main objective is to enhance the use of best animal model in biomedical study including biocompatibility tests of novel biomaterials in an orthopaedic research and also cancer research.

The member of this research programme comprises of experience personnel in related disciplines; animal anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pathology, ethology, welfare and jurisprudence, small and large animal medicine and anesthesiology, surgery, radiology and imaging.

The laboratories are well equipped and can support the need for the research activities.

The University Veterinary Hospital (UVH) is the only well equips veterinary hospital in the region and can provide good facilities and support services for the research activities.

The facilities and services provided by the center for laboratory animals research (CoMET) also support the need for the research.

The programme has good networking with other institutional at national and international levels.

The research programme has published more than 50 publications in CIJ and books/book chapters, not including the proceedings.

The programme has secured 10 research grants from public and private sectors worth about RM1.5 million (2006-2011).

About 40 postgraduate students (27 MS and 13 PhD) are now doing research under this programme and 30 students were graduated (15 MS and 15 PhD.
