Dr. Thiruvenkadan is working as Professor and Head in Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Tamil Nadu, India and specialized in Animal Genetics and Breeding. He is actively involved in characterization, evaluation and conservation of native breeds of livestock of Tamil Nadu as well as India. He has carried out characterization of Kanni Adu, Salem Black and Kodi Adu goats; Mecheri and Coimbatore sheep; and Umblacherry cattle of Tamil Nadu. He is also involved in genetic analysis of production and reproduction performances of farm animals of Tamil Nadu to formulate suitable breeding policy for the genetic improvement.

He has published 50 research articles in national and international journals and published monographs on Kanni Adu goat as well as Mecheri and Coimbatore sheep. He has undergone training on characterization and conservation of animal genetic resources at FAO-IAEA Joint Animal Production and Health Division, IAEA, Vienna, Austria and Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Spain.

Currently, He is involved in characterization and evaluation of Kodi Adu goat breed of Tamil Nadu with the financial support for International Foundation for Science, Sweden and study on genetic resistance to parasitic infection in small ruminants of Tamil Nadu.
